some limitations

Portfolytics gives you a clear view of your Shopify store’s sales and product structure – but there are a few things it doesn’t do (yet), and a few common questions that come up.

This page helps set the right expectations.

How does Portfolytics handle overlapping products?

Shopify doesn’t indicate which collection (categories count as collections) generated a sale, so you can’t assign revenue to a specific collection with certainty. Portfolytics solves this by offering two complementary views, letting you see both what’s selling and where.

Products in multiple collections

If a product is included in several collections, its sales appear in every one of those collections. While this shows you all the collections that are, or could be selling, it also means that the total amount of sales for the collections will be more than the total product revenue. Just something to keep in mind.

Products in the category hierarchy

Categories follow a different rule. To make sure category subtotals add up to total product revenue, we use “first-match wins”: the sale is credited to the highest category in the list that contains the product. Right now that list follows your main menu order; future versions will let you arrange categories any way you like.

Some data doesn’t update when i change the filtered dates

The number of collections, vendors online or products online online are current numbers. There is no way for us to get that historical data for new users. It is possible that we will add historical product counts and such to Portfolytics later, but right now we have many other more important features coming up.

What happens if a product has no sales?

It still shows up in product counts.

This helps you spot categories or collections with lots of items and no performance. Great for finding areas to trim down or refresh.

Does this app track inventory quantity?

No – Portfolytics doesn’t pull in your inventory counts. It focuses on product variety (how many different products) and how that compares to sales.

For example, you might have 10 types of sneakers and 1 of them sells like crazy. This tool helps you see that variety-to-sales relationship.

Can I export the data?

Not yet.

For now, Portfolytics is focused on giving you fast, visual insights inside the app. Exporting might be added later, depending on demand.

Does it show unpublished products?

Only if they are still technically “active” in your Shopify data.

If a product is truly removed from your store, it won’t show up. But draft or hidden items may appear if they still have a published status in the system.
